The Benefits to Upgrading to LED Lighting

There are many advantages in upgrading your warehouse lighting system to that of LED lighting. Here we have listed some of the most important reasons. Energy-efficient lights being LED have been suggested to save up to 50% to 80% of energy costs, thus reducing the costs tremendously within a large warehouse.

Savings

LED lighting can save you money in a multitude of different ways, and most importantly LED lighting provides a better lighting source than many other different light sources, with less energy usage. This means by changing your existing lighting to LED will more than likely provide a better working atmosphere and reduce energy consumption thus saving your business money on productivity and electricity charges.

There are however other benefits such as LED bulbs last at least four times longer than conventional bulbs meaning they do not have to be replaced as often, saving money on maintenance charges.

Bulb life comparison:

  • Incandescent bulb: approximately 1,000 hours
  • Halogen bulb: approximately 2,000 hours
  • Compact Fluorescent Bulb: approximately 6,000 hours
  • LED bulb: approximately 50,000 hours

By assessing the reduction in costs that LED lighting can provide, it is clear that LED lighting is a great solution to cutting costs in the long term for any business.

Light Quality

LED lighting provides an amazing light source, the light emitted from LED lighting according to the Color Rendering Index read very similar to that of daylight.

With LED lighting very similar to that of daylight, employees will become healthier, more productive, and happier according to recent studies.

Other benefits to installing LED lighting are that they have been suggested to decrease absence in the workplace.

Environmental Impact

As LED lighting consumes less energy and the LED bulbs last longer, LED lighting becomes better overall for the environment than other bulbs.

By using less energy, LED lighting becomes less dependent on power plants, meaning fewer emissions are produced.

Another reason LED lighting reduces environmental impact is that LEDs do not contain mercury, as opposed to fluorescent and metal halide lights.

Less Heat Energy

It is common for warehouses to get hot because of their ceiling lighting. The way incandescent and fluorescent bulbs work is by heat. Heat is used to heat a metal filament or gas-filled chamber, the filament or chamber is heated till it glows with a bright light. Heat is a by-product of producing light, and in fact, a standard bulb produces up to 90 percent of heat as waste energy and 10 percent light. LED lights produce light using tiny diodes, thus producing far less waste energy in the form of heat. Any heat that is produced by a LED light is absorbed backward into a heat sink, meaning LED lights are safe to touch.
