Over the last couple of centuries, the lighting industry has seen a lot of technological advances, which has left old technology outdated. A good example of warehouse lighting advancement is halogen lighting. Halogen lighting at the time of release was seen as a major advancement in the lighting industry, however, it may now become superseded altogether.
Halogen Lighting Explained
The halogen lamp is known by two other names, the quartz halogen, and the tungsten halogen, it is a form of incandescent lighting. Within the fixture is a filament that comprises of ductile tungsten, which can be described as a bulb made with fused quartz, aluminosilicate, or high silica glass and a gas-filled tube. Halogen lamps are quite different compared to incandescent lamps, however there efficicency in terms of wattages is greater. It is noted that the glass housing is a lot thicker and stronger than incandescent lamps.
Disavantages
There are two major factors that have led to halogen lighting being superseded. Halogen lighting is not energy efficient – lumens produced to wattages used. There are however new models that have been introduced over the years that provide 30 lumens per wattage but these still do not compete against other lighting technology. another disadvantage for halogen lighting is that they reach extremely hot temperatures during operation, which is very hazardous and can warm the room that is being lit by the halogen lighting. another disadvantage is that the halogen lighting is at risk of exploding when they heat up, making them quite the risk. Halogen lamps are also very vulnerable to fingerprints, a dirty lamp can be made very easily by touch.
The second reason for the halogen bulb to be superseded is quite simply because technology has advanced. It is a fact LED lighting is now leading the way. LED leads by example, low temperatures, better quality light, lower maintenance, and lower energy usage.
